Sony XPERIA Z1 vs SONY Z1 mini
WHAT’s THE DIFFERENCE?
Sony is still fresh with promotions and announcements regarding the Xperia Z1, which was released in September this year. Several websites, however, want it to move on to promote other devices, such as Xperia Z1 Mini (aka Xperia Z1 f), whose pictures have been floating all around the web. Today it was announced in Japan for telecom carrier NTT DoCoMo.
As always, a comparison becomes important here: what’s makes the Xperia Z1 f different from Xperia Z1, apart from the obvious addition of f in its name? Here’s a look at the specifications of both, and how they differ in various aspects-
Design and Display
As the name suggests, Z1 f is a smaller phone as compared to Z1, having dimensions of 127x64.9x9.4 mm. Its weight hasn’t been declared yet, although speculations have been made that it is lighter than the previous model. As was observed with Z1, Mini too has a dust and water resistant screen, over a range of 1 meter and a time span of 30 minutes. The display has a size of 720x1280 pixels packed in 4.3 inches which results in a pixel density of 342 ppi. Z1 has a density of 441 ppi, which is 100 ppi more than the Mini.
The design of the Z1 f seems to be quite different from the other Xperia models. It has a rectangular body and no curved edges. This is actually similar to the Xperia Z1. In fact, these two phones have a very similar look; the difference is observed only in their sizes.
Both the phonesare equipped with a screen that is shatter-proof and scratch resistant, as well as having a triluminos display and an X-Reality Engine. Both the phones are enabled with a sensitive multi touch.
In terms of colours smaller sibling trumps the Xperia Z1 as it comes in Black, White, Pink and Yellow in comparison to Black, White and Purple.
Hardware
In terms of hardware, the two devices have no difference. They are both equipped with memory expandable to 64GB using a micro SD card. Apart from this, they are provided with 16GB of internal memory as well as a 2GB RAM. Xperia Z1 Mini is powered with a quad-core 2.2GHz Snapdragon processor, which is the same processor seen in Xperia Z1. Also, both the models have an Adreno 330 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) built in.
The difference in terms of hardware is perceived in the battery capacity. While Xperia Z1 comes with a power packed Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery, Z1 Mini is enabled with a weaker battery at 2300 mAh.
Software
As it is a newer model when compared to Z1, the Mini employs the Android 4.2JellyBean OS, which is same as of the Z1. However, with the new JellyBean 4.3 version, both will get an upgrade soon. Xperia Z1 f comes pre-installed with all the characteristic Sony apps such as SonyLiv, maps, news, weather etc.
Camera
Another feature in which both the phones seem similar is in the camera quality. Both devices come with an impressive 20.7 MP primary camera, completely equipped with autofocus, LED and flash. Other features such as geo tagging, touch focus, face detection and image stabilisation are also common to both. Xperia Z1 and Z1 Mini have a 2MP secondary camera as well, which is rather convenient for video chatting.
Conclusion
One look at these specifications shows how similar both the models are, with the only difference occurring in their sizes. Xperia Z1 f, set to be launched globally later this year is being anticipated eagerly by the users since it brings the powerful features of Sony Xperia Z1 in smaller size.

Nice comparison. Both phones are amazing, but unfortunately none of them are available here in the US. Hopefully they'll arrive in the coming months as I'm really interested in buying the Z1 Mini.
ReplyDeletethey're both cool, how i wish to have even just one of them
ReplyDeleteGreat comparison. Grabe ang taas ng megapixels ng mga cameras nila. This may be the sole reason why I'd change from iPhone to either of these phones. :)
